sasha tishkov is a visual artist and a maker of Estonian origin. their work explores both built and natural environments, delving into geopolitical, social and cultural uncertainties within collective and personal herstories. rooted in sensitive engagement with nature, sasha’s practice employs queer ecology as a means to challenge anthropocentric and heteronormative concepts. often, the process of work starts long before physical engagement with materials and textures. tishkov’s practice explores anthropological and environmental phenomenas of peripheral territories, be it an abandoned military island, UN buffer zone, or post-Soviet wasteland. these landscapes speak of ambiguous stories creating hybrid topographies of artificial and natural origins. seeking to escape the confines of such dystopian realities, sasha create installations, sculptures and furniture that transcend boundaries, evoke fantasy, and convey poetic elements.
