Her Branches on the Ground, Her Roots in the Sky celebrates the olive tree as a symbol of syncretism among cultures and territories of the Mediterranean. Reflecting on the connections between nature and identity, the artist starts with a gaze upon the landscape of Imperia to realize that such a panorama characterizes many other Mediterranean coasts.

The introduction of this tree in Dolcedo by the Benedictine monks of Lerino transformed the landscape, and the oil mills along the Prino stream shaped the life of the community. The title is taken from a poem by Mahmoud Darwish, born in Palestine wher the presence of the olive tree is a key element and symbol of resistance. The project conceived by Tishkov explores the various dimension of the olive tree in an attempt to approach the history of Dolcedo. At the same time, the artist provides a space for reflectio on the connections between different cultures and on the extreme importance that migrations have for individuals and communities as well as their ability to shape distant territories.
